Forensic Science

The Department of Forensic Science is dedicated to the application of scientific principles to legal investigations. Our programs, available at undergraduate level, cover a range of forensic disciplines, including forensic chemistry, forensic biology, and digital forensics. Faculty members, with extensive experience in forensic research and casework, guide students through a curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills. The department emphasizes the role of forensic science in the criminal justice system and provides students with the tools to contribute to the resolution of legal cases.

Enter the world of investigation and deduction in the forensic science lab. From crime scene analysis to DNA profiling, students learn the techniques used to solve mysteries. This lab is a captivating blend of science and detective work, where students apply scientific methods to unravel complex criminal cases.

Program Outcomes (POs)

Program Outcomes describes what skills, Knowledge and behavior that students acquire as they progress through the program. The program has a better representation of program outcomes based on the existing outcomes which will be reviewed in every three years based on the guidelines of NBA, NAAC and the University guidelines in this regard, if any. The following 12 POs have been chosen by the Department of Forensic Science, School of Allied Sciences, Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University.
The B.Sc. (H) Forensic Science curriculum at DBUU has been designed to fully meet all the 12 Program Outcomes:

  • Develop critical thinking and analysis in a progressive manner that builds through the sequence of courses.
  • Culminate in a capstone course experience that requires synthesis of diverse skills and abilities in the solution of a real problem.
  • Develop laboratory skills to exacting standards of precision and care, including spectroscopic and wet chemical methods of analysis, microscopy, molecular biotechnology methods, comparative, and preparation of solution/standards.

  • Develop oral and written communication skills through the sequence of courses, with particular attention to development of the ability to present technical information without bias, at a variety of levels.

  • Produce graduates who demonstrate ethical backgrounds and who can articulate the ethical and professional standards of the discipline.
  • Graduates perform at a satisfactory level on standardized exams chosen to measure their performance.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

  • Students will be able to understand the basic laws and principles of forensic science which helps in civil and criminal investigation.
  • Students will be able to develop testable hypotheses regarding collected evidence, design and execute experiments to analyze this evidence, analyze data using appropriate instrumental and statistical methods, and draw appropriate conclusions.
  • Students will demonstrate proficiency in crime scene investigation, forensic laboratory investigation and will show competency during court trial as expert witness.
