About Event    This lecture is designed for B. Pharm First year students. The topic of the lecture is “Acids, Bases and buffers”. The topic will cover all updated techniques and knowledge of novel drug delivery system.
AIM of the Events
  • Define acids and bases with examples using different theories.
  • Define neutralization reaction with example.
  • Explain the limitations of Arrhenius theory.
  • Define buffer, buffer capacity.
  • Classify buffers with examples.
  • Write the physical and chemical properties, method of preparation , uses of HCl, Boric Acid, Ammonium Hydroxide, 3 NaOH and so on.
Content of the Event
  • To describe the assumption(s) that are generally used when strong, monoprotic acids (bases) are dissolved in water.  
  • To describe the conditions under which the contribution of H3O+ (OH- ) from the dissociation of water will be important in a solution containing a strong, monoprotic acid (base).  
  • To describe the rules for determining whether or not water dissociation will contribute greater than 5% of the total H3O+ (OH- ) concentration in a solution containing a strong, monoprotic acid (base). 
  • To calculate the pH, pOH, [H3O+ ]tot, [OH- ]tot, [H3O+ ]water, and [OH- ]water in a solution containing a strong acid (base) given the initial concentration of the acid (base). 
  • To describe the conditions under which the contribution of H3O+ (OH- ) from the dissociation of water will be important in a solution containing a weak, monoprotic acid (base)
