Hostels

Hostels providing a good environment can make a hostel feel like home away from home. The Hostel manger / warden should act as a friend, philosopher and guide to the student in the Hostels.

Management of Hostels

University hostels shall be under the administrative control of the Registrar Administration and the Chief Warden.

Chief Warden

This position is held by a Senior Professor who is selected by a committee led by the Vice-Chancellor that comprising the following members:

  • Vice Chancellor - Chairman
  • Registrar - Convenor
  • Dean Student Welfare - Member
  • Dean (Academics) – Member
  • Dean (Training & Placements) - Member

Functions of Chief Warden

The following are the specific functions of Chief Warden:

  1. The wardens are under the direct control of the Chief Warden.
  2. The Hostel Representative committee shall be constituted by the Chief Warden. This committee shall be reconstituted every year.
  3. Hostel mess menu shall be prepared through the following procedure:
    • The Hostel Representative committee shall take the inputs from the hostel boarders and present hostel mess menu to the Chief Warden.
    • The presented hostel menu will be analyzed by the Chief warden & DSW.
    • After analyzing and with some modifications, if any, it will be sent back to the Hostel Representative committee for their satisfaction.
    • After the satisfactory report, the final Hostel Mess Menu will be signed by the Chief Warden, DSW and the Hostel Representative Committee.
    • The menu once finalized will be in operation for entire session.
  4. Chief Warden shall ensure the following :
    • Hygienic, Healthy and nutritious food as per the approved mess menu.
    • Constitute a committee for periodically check the quality of the food prepared and present the report as and when demanded by the authorities.

    • Coordinate with DSW for the maintenance of the play fields so that boarders can enjoy the facilities in the evenings and during free time.
    • Any co-curricular activities for boarders shall be organized with his/her approval.
    • Ensure the health of the students by engaging the Doctor’s and others for the same.
    • Likewise, all staff who works in the hostel canteens and mess rooms must undergo health screenings periodically to ensure that there are no contagious diseases present among the hostel management.
    • Without his/her permission, no boarders will be in their rooms during lecture/lab hours.
    • She/he maintains a system for avoiding wastage of food, water and electricity.
    • She/he shall maintain an attendance register of all the boarders and also keep along permanent addresses for contacting parents in emergencies.
    • She/he can initiate clubs with the permission of DSW within the Hostel to engage student in Co-curricular activities
    • She/he shall maintain a complaint register where the students can write their complaints related to hostels.
    • To meet the emergency situations, an ambulance shall be made available.
    • All hostel blocks will be overseen by a Deputy Warden who stays in campus.

Administrative Rules

The following rules shall be strictly implemented for smooth and effective administration of the University Hostels.

Hostel Admission - Eligibility

  • The students registered for full-time program of study shall be eligible for accommodation in the hostels of the University.
  • Students desirous of residing in the University hostel shall apply in the prescribed form.
  • Allotment of rooms shall be based on the first come basis for the student applying in very first year of the study.
  • The applications received by other than very first year students shall be scrutinized by Chief Warden or his nominee.
  • Hostel accommodation shall be given for one academic year at a time. There is no provision, in any circumstances, to vacate the hostel in between the session.
  • If any hosteller wants to discontinue availing the hostel facility, s/he has to put a written application on studentcell@dbuu.ac.in till 15th May.

General Rules (Hostel)

  • Ragging is strictly prohibited. If anyone is found guilty of directly/indirectly involved in ragging he/she will be punished/rusticated/expelled/suspended from the University.
  • All the students are expected to be in hostel before 7.00 pm.
  • Students should not write on walls, doors, Almirah and windows. If found he/she has to face consequences. All students must keep hostel neat and clean.
  • Wardens and officers from university can visit any room at any time for checking. If any objectionable material found with students, strict action will be taken against them.
  • Parents/Guardians/Visitors can meet their ward in hostel with the permission of the hostel wardens from 4:30 pm to 6.30 pm at the visitor room. No Parent/Guardian/Visitor is allowed to stay in their room.
  • Students must follow the mess timings strictly. Bringing food to one's room is strictly prohibited. If students have any complaints regarding hostel or mess they should immediately inform to the wardens or Student Wellfare cell.
  • Students feeling sick or feel symptoms of sickness should report to hostel warden for evacuation to hospital. 24hours Ambulance-Service is available in the campus.
  • Lights and fans to be switched off when no one is in the room.
  • Students should not shift room furniture to other place otherwise 10,000/- fine will be imposed.
  • Students are neither allowed to use private electrical equipment Such as electric stove, Heater/kettle and if they want to use other equipment, they have to take permission of warden.
  • Student should take permission of hostel warden and Dean-Student welfare to arrange programs in hostel.
  • Hostel accommodation will cancel if University admission is cancelled by student.
  • Without permission of Dean & Warden, the student cannot stay outside. No student shall leave the hostel without prior permission of the hostel warden.
  • If any Student have to stay out of hostel for night must concern to the wardens through their parents.
  • Students are not allowed to use vehicle in hostel premises.
  • In girls hostel Male visitors are not allowed to visit students in their living rooms.
  • The students should not carry any weapons, poisonous things or drugs and they should not violate any law. If any individual or group is identified to have caused the damage, double the cost of the damaged property will be recovered.
  • Students are not allowed to make union or community based on caste, religion or region.
  • Girls are strictly restricted to enter in boy’s hostel and boys are strictly restricted to enter in girl’s hostel. If found 25,000 rs penalty will be charged.
  • Students are not allowed to stay in the hostel during the class hours unless the stay is unavoidable due to illness or any other valid reason. Outside students are not allowed to stay at hostel.
  • Students should register their names in entry register while going outside.
  • Smoking, Gambling in any form such as Playing Cards (even without money at stake), consumption of alcohol, use of drugs and even possession of such things are prohibited.
