Ayurveda, one of the oldest medicinal practices globally, traces its roots back over 4000 years. According to Hindu scriptures, Ayurveda's origin is attributed to Lord Dhanvantari, the physician of the Gods. This ancient system of healing is based on the concept of balance and harmony between the mind, body, and spirit. It is believed that the gods bestowed this knowledge upon sages, who then shared it with human physicians.
Ayurveda identifies the human body as composed of the elements of earth, water, air, and ether, governed by three primary energy channels, known as Tridosha (Kapha, Pitta, and Vatta). Maintaining a balance among these doshas is fundamental for good health and disease prevention.
1. Swasthasya Swathya Rakshanam (Preventive Medicine): Ayurveda emphasizes preventive measures, including therapies, exercises, and medicines, to promote a healthy, disease-free life.
2. Aturasya Vikar Prashamanam (Therapeutic Medicine): When illness strikes, Ayurveda offers therapeutic approaches to cure diseases and restore well-being.
In recent times, the growing awareness of alternative and traditional medicinal practices, coupled with the rising costs of orthodox medicine, has opened up a plethora of career opportunities for BAMS graduates.
