Integrating Bioinformatics with Startup Ecosystem and Research Commercialization
The Centre of Excellence in Bioinformatics, Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University, is organizing a 5-days Hands-on Bioinformatics Workshop from 27th April to 1st May 2026 in collaboration with the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology. The workshop aims to provide practical exposure to bioinformatics tools and techniques used in genomics, proteomics, and computational biology. It will include expert lectures, hands-on training sessions, and interactive discussions to enhance participants skills in sequence analysis, molecular visualization, and data interpretation. The event is designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications, fostering research aptitude and technical competence among students and scholars. Approximately 40–50 participants from outside the university, including students and research scholars, are expected to take part in the workshop.
Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology is an autonomous body of the Government of Uttarakhand, Department of Information & Science Technology. UCOST started its activities from last quarter of year 2005, However it was registered under the Registration of Societies Act, 1860 in November 2002.
The apex body of the Council is the General Body which is chaired by the Hon'ble Chief Secretary.This body comprises of the Principal Secretary & Secretaries from various departments, Vice Chancellors, eminent scientists, representatives from Industries and NGO's. The day to day business is held by the Director General. The Secretary of the department is the chairman of its executive committee. The Council plays a catalytic role for the promotion of S&T in the state and supplement /complement the developmental programmes of the state in different sectors. The overall incharge of the Council is the Director General.
The workshop will provide hands-on training and practical exposure to bioinformatics tools and techniques, enabling participants to develop skills in biological data analysis, Genomics and Proteomics while enhancing their research and computational capabilities.

The establishment of a Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics at Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University by Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) aims to position the institution as a leader in bioinformatics research and education. The center will foster interdisciplinary collaboration, drive innovation and contribute to the advancement of life sciences by leveraging cutting-edge computational tools and techniques. Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field that combines Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics to analyze and interpret biological data. Over the past few decades, the advent of high-throughput technologies such as Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), Proteomics, and Metabolomics has resulted in the generation of vast amounts of biological data. The need to analyze and derive meaningful insights from this data has led to the emergence of bioinformatics as a critical area of research and education.
